The Hawaiian Barbie (Mattel 7407) was the first ethnic Barbie and came 1975, 3 years before the "Dolls Of The World" (DOTW) series started in 1978. As far as i could find out, the Hawaiian Barbie was made in 3 different variations: the 1975/76 type, the Superstar and the 1982/83 type. Beside the Superstar Hawaii Barbie they all were made from the "Steffie" head mold (1972). In 1978 followed a Hawaiian Ken then. Beside Barbie and Ken no other hawaiian dolls were made between 1975-1983 (as far as i know).

1975/76:

The first dolls (1975) came in a box with yet the older Barbie Logo, in 1976 the box came already with the updated logo. 1975 and 1976 dolls were marked as follows:©1966/Mattel, Inc./U.S. Patented/U.S. Pat. Pend./Made in/Korea (picture above shows a 1976 box). Later editions were just marked Mattel/ 1966/ Korea and Mattel/ 1966/ Philippines (Philippines since 1977 i guess) only. The accessoires: 2-piece swimsuit, print skirt (prints changed through the years), grass skirt, lei, ukulele, surfboard, flowers.

1978/79:

The Hawaiian Superstar was not made with the Steffie head mold, but has the Superstar body and face. Made in Taiwan. Accessoires: orange floral bikini with matching long skirt, floral lei, green grass skirt.

1982/83:

1982/83 Hawaiian Doll in different box. Accessoires: bikini top, wrap beach skirt, garland, ukulele and a windsurfer.

And here are my Hawaiians:

1975 doll (Korea; sold it recently), 1976/77 doll (Philippines), 1978 Superstar (Taiwan). Got also Hawaiian Ken, but sold him.
